CAPE TOWN – Golden Arrow Bus Service has warned that further fare increases may be needed as the year progresses.

The bus service announced on Wednesday an overall fare increase of 8% starting next Monday.

Management said it aimed to implement only one increase per year, but the company now had to balance what was affordable for passengers and what was needed to offset cost increases in its operations.

Spokesperson, Bronwen Dyke-Beyer: “To get the most out of our product offerings and access greater savings, we advise passengers to purchase the weekly and monthly Gold GABS Card products instead of paying in cash. . Weekly and monthly products are sold at a discount of up to 45%.

Dyke-Beyer pointed out that the price of diesel has increased by 81% over the past 18 months and that current projections call for fuel prices to continue to soar.

“It has therefore become necessary to put in place a temporary 8% tariff increase at all levels from March 14, 2022,” she said.
