Laredo, Texas- On Thursday, January 6, 2022, the City of Laredo held a special meeting of council to recommend approval of the Transit Management Services contract to Hendrickson Transportation Group (HTG), which will take over operations of the transit system The Metro. Laredo Council approved the motion and authorized the City Manager to begin negotiating a management agreement with the sole bidder, HTG. The motion on the agenda states that the agreement should include a five-year term starting February 1, 2022, with the option to renew the contract for another five years.

HTG President John Hendrickson said they are excited to be part of this project as one of their main interests is to be part of this transit community. HTG’s experience with different types of community services will continue to support the services that are offered in Laredo. Additionally, both organizations expect a smooth transition to continue operations of El Metro. HTG is committed to providing a comfortable transition, working with all current employees to secure their employment and benefits. HTG believes in the importance of stability in the family unit and helping them achieve it.

The official contract will be reviewed at the next City Council meeting scheduled for Tuesday, January 18.

Hendrickson Transportation Group is an American company established in April 2020, however, its founders have over 25 years of experience developing, managing and operating public transportation systems including Denton County Transportation Authority in Denton County , Texas, and Waco Transit System in Waco, Texas.
