Megabus, one of North America’s largest bus companies, has announced that cross-border bus service will resume between Canada and the United States beginning May 11.

The schedule will allow Canadians to travel between Toronto and a dozen US cities, in addition to increasing service between Toronto and Montreal, Niagara Falls and Ottawa during peak summer periods.

Tickets for the new schedules can be purchased today for travel beginning May 11 at https://ca.megabus.com/

The Megabus news comes as Europe-based budget service Flixbus announced it would begin providing service to Toronto residents on April 7.

The first runs will be between Kitchener and Toronto, Niagara Falls and Toronto, and an express Ottawa-Toronto run.

Itineraries for passengers from Toronto will also include stops at St. Catharines, Kitchener (downtown), University of Waterloo, Guelph and Mississauga.

Tickets are on sale now and initial promotions mean that until April 6, customers can book travel to different cities for as low as $4.99.

Arrivals from both bus companies will be greeted by bus travelers left without options after Greyhound suspended operations last year.

Metrolinx spokeswoman Anne Marie Aikins told The Sun earlier this week: ‘We welcome other bus service providers to the area as they provide more transportation options for customers. We also have a plan in place to partner with other carriers to allow them access to the new Union Station bus terminal to drop off and pick up customers, such as Coach Canada and several others, as well as to donate access to other Metrolinx properties.
