Mizoram launches interstate bus service to hills from Jampui to Tripura
Aizawl: Mizoram would launch an interstate bus service with the Jampui hills of Tripura, mainly inhabited by various related Zo or Mizo tribes, with the aim of establishing good relations with the neighboring state and strengthening brotherhood with the Mizos living in that state, an official said.
The proposed bus service would be operated between Mizoram’s capital, Aizawl, and the town of Behliangchhip in Kanchanpur sub-division of North Tripura district, state transport department director R Lalrammawia said.
Chief Minister Zoramthanga will signal the bus service from Aizawl at 6:30 a.m. on May 9, he said.
According to Lalrammawia, Mizoram state transport buses would depart from Aizawl on Mondays and Thursdays at 6am. He will return from Behliangchhip to Jampui Hills on Tuesdays and Fridays, he said.
The fare for Aizawl-Behliangchhip is set at Rs 476.
The director of transportation said IsMojo that efforts are underway to operate a bus service between Aizawl and the town of Churachandpur in Manipur, where a large number of Zo related tribes live.
He said the government of Mizoram is taking steps to sign a reciprocity agreement with its counterpart in Manipur.
Mizoram now operates interstate transport services with only Assam.
Meanwhile, Mizo communities in Tripura have welcomed the Mizoram government’s decision.
The Secretary General of the Mizo Convention based in Tripura, Dr. Zairemthiama Pachuau, said the proposed interstate bus service between Mizoram and Tripura would not only strengthen cultural ties and brotherhood between the Mizo communities of the two states, but also establish good relations between the two neighboring states.
“The Mizo communities strongly welcome this decision. The interstate bus service will strengthen brotherhood between Mizo communities as well as better relations between residents of the two neighboring states,” Pachuau told PTI by phone.
He said the proposed interstate bus service will also facilitate exchanges and contacts between people.
