Movements of general and black number plate private transport vehicles will be regulated every Friday
Doha: The Corniche Street Closure Implementation Plan Committee has announced the implementation of a vehicle license plate management plan to reduce traffic in central Doha.
The plan, which will be implemented every Friday from 3 p.m. to 10 p.m. from September 30, will divert vehicles with general transport license plates and black private transport license plates from central Doha.
The area covered by the plan stretches from Al Khafji Street in the north, C-Ring Road in the west and south, and Corniche Street in the east.
The plan will then come into full daily effect from November 1, coinciding with Qatar’s hosting of the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
Individuals who own only one vehicle (with a general transport license plate or a private black license plate), as well as Mowasalat and Qatar Rail public transport vehicles, and emergency vehicles, are exempted from the plan and will be able to access these roads. .
The Committee added that the competent authorities will impose fines – based on Article 49 – on all vehicles that access the center of Doha during the periods of implementation of the plan and do not meet the criteria for exemption.
The vehicle license plate management plan is part of travel demand management measures that have been designed to minimize traffic during the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 and ensure smooth transport operations throughout the country.
It was tested during the recent Lusail Super Cup to assess its effectiveness in improving traffic flow across the country. Based on the results, it was decided to implement the plan during this year’s FIFA World Cup to support the efforts of various stakeholders to ensure seamless transport experiences in central Doha during tournament.
