Resumption of fares for all Sarasota County transit services on July 6

SARASOTA COUNTY, FL – Sarasota County Area Transit (SCAT) will resume collecting fares for all services starting July 6.

The rates, which were previously suspended as part of Sarasota County’s response to COVID-19, will apply to fixed route service and SCAT Plus. The Siesta Key Breeze fare remains chargeable as it always has been, said SCAT Director Jane Grogg.

“This is a return to normal operations after our suspension of tariff collection due to the COVID response,” she said.

The SCAT fixed route bus service will charge the following rates:

  • Regular one-way service is $ 1.25.
  • Two children five and under are free per passenger, and each additional child costs 60 cents each.
  • Adults 65 and over are Medicare patients, and people with disabilities cost 60 cents for one-way service.
  • Adults 80 and over are free.

Pre-purchased passes are available from June 28 at the downtown SCAT transfer station.

SCAT Plus will charge the following rates:

  • $ 2.50 for each one-way ticket for eligible disabled people, those certified transportation disadvantaged due to age, income or disability.

Advance reservations are required to use this curb-to-curb service. For any questions regarding your eligibility, call the SCAT Mobility Coordinator and 941-861-1042.

The new on-demand service was launched by SCAT on June 5 as part of their efforts to improve efficiency and provide new options for passengers. The service received an “excellent response,” said Grogg.

An on-demand vehicle picks up customers within 30 minutes of their request for a ride and brings them to their destinations in four specified areas. The vehicles are similar to minivans and accessible to people using mobility devices or needing a ramp to get on.

Grogg said it was a complement to the SCAT services already in place.

“It provides flexibility and additional options for people to move around our community,” she said.

Curb-to-curb trips for this new service are available from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Saturday and from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday. Each ride costs $ 1.25 and rides can be paid for using an online registration service, an app, or by paying the driver cash.

Reservations are required to use this service and can be made through the OnDemand at Sarasota County app, in line or by calling 941-300-1553.
