Tata Comm, TM Collaborates for IP Transit Services in ASEAN

Tata Communications announced a partnership with Telekom Malaysia Berhad(TM) to provide stable, high-speed and reliable connectivity in the ASEAN region and open access to global businesses.

TM is Malaysia’s national connectivity and digital infrastructure provider. The agreement was signed between Tata Comm’s subsidiary, Tata Communications International, and TM’s global and wholesale arm, TM WHOLESALE.

This collaboration will enable service providers, mobile network operators and Internet service providers in the region to meet the growing data connectivity needs of their customers by giving them access to a global level Internet Protocol (IP) network. 1.

This will help provide a reliable and stable Tier 1 IP Transit Service (IPT), an Internet connectivity service that enables end users to access all websites and content on the Internet. This will further boost sectors such as e-commerce, online entertainment, retail, online banking and delivery services which have been accelerating in recent times.

Under the agreement, Tata Communications expands its IPT service coverage by leveraging TM’s data center, extensive connectivity and network infrastructure in Malaysia.

This collaboration will also allow Tata Communications to optimize the accessibility of TM in the ASEAN region via terrestrial networks and submarine cables to neighboring countries. Submarine cables include the Malaysia-Cambodia-Thailand submarine cable for connectivity to Indochina and the Nusantara Gateway submarine cable for connectivity to Indonesia.

TM will leverage Tata Communications’ global Tier 1 IP network to serve customers in over 190 countries and territories, extending TM’s IP transit coverage and enhancing its TMiX regional offering.

Sumeet Walia, Director of Sales and Marketing at Tata Communications, said, “The service provider ecosystem in the ASEAN region will benefit from our union with TM and enable access to Internet provider transit connectivity. Tier 1 that provides scale and a boost to stimulate the economy. By offering high capacity, low latency IP transit services to and from Malaysia for our two customers, we are bringing synergies for a more robust, secure and flexible IP platform.

Tata Communications is one of the world’s leading providers of digital infrastructure. Its Tier 1 IP network, 100% owned undersea fiber optic backbone and global consortium cable network carry approximately 30% of the world’s Internet routes.

The company’s consolidated net profit increased by 14.86% to Rs 296.11 crore on a 6.82% drop in net sales to Rs 4,102.79 crore in the first quarter of FY22 from compared to the first quarter of FY21.

Tata Communications Certificate rose 0.41% to currently trade at Rs 1371.05 on BSE.
